Welcome to the lagniappe.  I know that some of you may not be as fond of the word lagniappe as others, but I promise you can be, it's easy to embrace!  It's pronounced like lan-yap, not like laggernoppy, or laggernapper, or lagnpph. LAN-YAP!

1. Chiefly Southern Louisiana and Southeast Texas. a small gift given with a purchase to a customer, by way of compliment or for good measure; bonus.
2. a gratuity or tip.
3. an unexpected or indirect benefit.

 

It really is more fun though when used incorrectly, as in:  I've been lagniapped!  That makes no sense really but it does sound like something good or bad has happened depending on the inflection of your voice when you say it.  And, now you're been lagniapped!
